The farmhouse Poggiacolle is located on the hills surrounding the medieval town of San Gimignano and thus offering a wonderful view from its lodgings as well as gardens and pool. It offers fully equipped apartments or rooms with breakfast. All accommodations have been recently restored according to the traditional Tuscan country style with terracotta and wood beam ceilings. Both the apartments and the rooms are provided with all comforts, with all rooms having air-conditioning and their own private bathroom and sharing a common kitchen and lounge area in the house's tower from where you can enjoy a gorgeous view of San Gimignano.

The farmhouse has an outdoor pool with sun loungers and umbrellas and is surrounded by a large garden area. Guests can enjoy mountain bikes as well as the hiking paths and the picnic area in the woods that surround the garden. Tennis, golf and other amenities are available close by. Poggiaccolle is also a farm producing DOC wines such as the white wine Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Chianti wine, extra virgin olive oil, vinsanto and saffron. All of the products are organic.

The owner, Stefano, has transformed this Tuscan farmhouse into a welcoming, modern home that is perfect for couples, families, and larger groups searching to enjoy the natural beauty of the countryside outside of San Gimignano. The 5 double bedrooms, all with air-conditioning and each with its own en-suite bathroom, is accented by terracotta floors and brick and dark wood beam ceilings and the charming selection of antique furniture. Several of the bedrooms offer a one-of-a-kind view of the medieval city of San Gimignano. These rooms all open to a large kitchen/living area comprised of Tuscan-style wooden furniture and a massive fireplace.

The B&B rooms are all in one house, Girasole, which makes it possible to also rent the 5 rooms together (perfect for up to 10 guests) and enjoy the experience of staying in your own Tuscan home. With its spacious rooms and ample natural light, this setup is perfect for large groups or families exploring Tuscany.

Separately, there are three apartments each with its kitchen, fully-equipped with all necessary table and cookware for creating tempting meals while on holiday - but only if you want to, since the many restaurants in nearby San Gimignano will also be calling your name. The smallest of the apartments, Rosa, is perfect for a couple with one double bedroom, bathroom and its lovely kitchen with a fireplace.

Ginestra, an apartment for up to 6 guests with 3 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, is located on the ground floor of the farmhouse and promises easy access to the gardens and pool area.

The Lavanda apartment, which will accommodate up to 4 persons, consists of 2 double bedrooms with a travertine-tiled bathroom and a kitchen-living room with a fireplace. This apartment is on the ground floor of the farmhouse and its rooms enjoy an excellent view of San Gimignano.

A working estate: taste its products

The estate is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves from which it produces wine - including the local Vernaccia of San Gimignano and Chianti - and extra-virgin olive oil. It also makes a delicious sweet Tuscan wine called vinsanto and cultivates a small production of saffron, grown locally in San Gimignano since the Middle Ages and recently reintroduced.

If you visit Tuscany in the fall, you can become involved in the grape harvest in September or in olive picking in November if you wish. It is a fun activity which is also educational in seeing how local farmers work.

San Gimignano, a Magical Landscape
