Marradi lodging, Mugello
Marradi is a small town in Mugello that borders with Emilia Romagna. It’s particularly renowned for chestnuts (all territory of Mugello is famous for its exclusive - and officially protected - local variety of chestnut, which has gained the IGP quality assurance label, but Marradi is the city traditionally tied with this delicious fruit), that’s why in October and November there are usually events and manifestations celebrating chestnuts, its culture and history. Guided trekking paths for learning chestnut harvesting art, - like that one named Strada del Marrone del Mugello di Marradi - photo exhibitions about past editions and obviously, typical local chestnut recipes tasting, like castagnaccio (cake made with chestnut flour), roasted or boiled chestnuts and many more.
Marradi has recently been inscribed in the international list of Slow Cities for the promotion of its local products, traditions and culture, as well as the promotion of a sustainable tourism.
The town was also the homeland of the famous poet Dino Campana, who is usually celebrated on the 20th of August. A noteworthy attraction to visit is the Badia of Santa Reparata of Marradi, an ancient and beautiful monastery.
